Our Surf Camp and Hotel in Mal Pais
Founded in 1990 by Douglas Packman, one of the earliest pioneers to explore the surf spots in Costa Rica, the Surf Camp is one of the oldest hotels in Mal Pais and Santa Teresa. From the early days until today the Surf Camp is a popular hangout for the local and visiting surf scene with all the good vibes of surf culture.
Still owned and operated by Douglas and his two sons, the Mal Pais Surf Camp is a friendly hotel for single travelers, families, couples and groups of friends on a surf vacation in Costa Rica.
While most hotels in Santa Teresa are on small lots in a busy neighborhood, the Surf Camp enjoys a quiet location on 10 acres of tropical landscaped gardens, backed by the lush jungle of Mal Pais. In the breezy garden you can relax in hammocks under palm trees or by the pool with a tropical cocktail. Often you can watch monkeys, iguanas, parrots and many other birds and wildlife.
Surf Camp Restaurant & Bar
Our restaurant is open throughout the day, starting at 6:30 with breakfast ranging from continental to tico-style “Pintos”, pancakes, fruits and mueslis. During the day you can always order burgers and wraps for a quick snack, along with full meals and various vegetarian dishes until late at 10 pm. We also prepare fresh juice from fruits or vegetables, sodas, and a variety of cocktails. And of course we serve you the coldest beer you can get in Santa Teresa and Mal Pais!
